Wellness in Motion

The Pilates program at "Wellness in Motion" is focused on the ability and level of progression of the client, rather than the type of equipment used.  A group class can consist of Mat exercises or work on the reformer, chair, springboard or other prop.  The teacher varies the student's workout so the class never becomes routine.  We also consider the activity/athletic background or any contraindications the student might have.  Our focus is always on form (using proper body mechanics) versus only teaching choreography that looks good, but isn't necessarily functional or relevant for the client.  It is important to us that our participants understand the purpose and relevance of a movement.  Classes never exceed 5 students and teachers are all Pilates Method Alliance(PMA) certified Pilates teachers.  Pilates Method Alliance is an internationally recognized Pilates certification.  (www.pilatesmethodalliance.com).

The Private Lesson:

v  The ultimate entry to the beginner as well as excellent personal attention for the seasoned practitioner of Pilates.

v  Can be of therapeutic character and bodywork or manual techniques can be implemented to facilitate and increase strength and range of motion.

v  Can also be geared toward sport specific and personal goals.

v  Available upon appointment.

The Wellness Class:

v  Half Pilates and half Cardio and strength class, designed for the aging population.  In this class we focus on posture, balance and areas of the body that typically experience weakness as we age.

v  The Cardio-aerobic exercise and strength training aspect of the class is particularly important to maintain quality and function in the daily lives of our students.

v  The goal is for our participants to "grow younger" in a healthy and safe environment while keeping the class challenging.  Students are screened or taught in private lessons if needed, before joining this class.

The Advanced Class:

v  For the seasoned practitioner who has good form, needs a challenge and is looking to take their practice to a higher level.

Typically more athletic and gymnastic in nature, but can have Martial Arts components as well as sound healthy movement pattern reinforcement.

v  Our goal is for the intermediate student to become independent in their movement and reach their highest fitness potential.

v  Approximately 90 minutes long.

The Intermediate Class:

v  For the student comfortable with Pilates and basic anatomical terminology, choreography of the exercises and for the person who has a good basic understanding of movement and the ability and awareness to work from a Neutral Spine* with stabile movement patterns.

The Form Class:

v  This class is intended for the beginner as well as the seasoned Pilates practitioner who is seeking a more thorough, slow or educational movement experience with time to stop and ask questions if needed.

v  We believe in practicing Pilates because we should never stop learning.  Even the most seasoned practitioner needs to revisit the basics from time to time.

*Neutral Spine: Spinal position when all body parts align correctly.  The natural curves of the Lumbar, Thoracic and Cervical spine are maintained and the pelvis is neither excessively tilted forward nor backward.
